About

Before retiring, Jan Resseger staffed advocacy and programming to support public education justice in the national setting of the United Church of Christ—working to improve the public schools that serve 50 million of our children; reduce standardized testing; ensure attention to vast opportunity gaps; advocate for schools that welcome all children; and speak for the public role of public education.  Jan chaired the National Council of Churches Committee on Public Education for a dozen of those years.

  1. How do we get help if we have schools that meet your guidelines?

    • I would definitely contact Robert Balfanz at Johns Hopkins University. Then please reply to this blog to let us know what kind of help he was able to offer. He is a very personable man, and I trust he would be so glad to hear from you.

  3. Jan–I have a new person who will be assisting with some of our education work. The main issue for us in Pennsylvania is education funding. Do you have recommendations for specific resources that might help to get him up to speed on the issue of funding more generally? BTW–I really appreciate your blog, and I’m adding him to your distribution. Hoping you are well! Sandy

    • Jan–I show that I’m still following your blog, but haven’t received anything for quite some time. I don’t see any place to sign up again or fix it. I miss it, and want to get back on!

      • Hm. I don’t know what to say. On the right, under the search section, it should say, “You are following this blog. Manage.” Go in there and de-subscribe. And then re-subscribe. Let me know if that works. I’m pleased you want to receive it, and I don’t know why it has stopped coming. Once my own sign-up for it discontinued it. And I followed the instructions I just gave you. Jan Resseger https://janresseger.wordpress.com/ “That all citizens will be given an equal start through a sound education is one of the most basic, promised rights of our democracy. Our chronic refusal as a nation to guarantee that right for all children…. is rooted in a kind of moral blindness, or at least a failure of moral imagination…. It is a failure which threatens our future as a nation of citizens called to a common purpose… tied to one another by a common bond.” —Senator Paul Wellstone, March 31, 2000

  4. Jan has done a great job keeping the issue of public education funding before the
“public education” advocates. Three Cheers! Ron Hooker
